About me

Perfectly Imperfect

My healing journey began after suffering for more than 50 years with binge eating and yo-yo dieting. Finally exhausted by a lifetime of failed attempts to get and stay thin, I turned around, surrendered the war against my body, and decided to get to know myself as I really was: a person with a binge eating disorder (BED).

As I began to untangle a lifetime of damage caused by decades of weight obsession and disordered eating, I discovered that any disordered behavior happens to us, from the outside in. To put it plainly, I was not secretly broken, unworthy, or flawed because I struggled with food and weight loss, I was part of a culture that told me I should struggle if I wanted to feel worthy and accepted.

By rejecting this conventional wisdom, I became free to understand that my experience of BED, which I’d always felt to be the most shameful curse, was actually the very thing that would lead to lasting recovery. Even better, I realized that my disorder made me something uniquely special. I got to be one of those quirky people who lived an authentically flawed, wholly valuable, and genuinely interesting life.

This extraordinary experience is the foundation for my work today. Centered around the concept of what I call The Sacred Binge, I guides others through books, online courses, and live group coaching to experience the deep source of wisdom and healing that comes when we embrace our binge eating as the most real and worthy part of ourselves.

Together, we debunk the controlling notion that anything less than flawless is bad and learn to give ourselves the very experience we were told only the next diet would deliver: an unshakable sense of value and well-being.

Do You Have Binge Eating Disorder?

My Mission

I want every person who’s ever struggled with weight, body issues, and shame around binge eating to know that the thing they have found to be most shameful about themselves is actually the key to healing their disorder, becoming their most authentic selves, and experiencing an unshakable sense of value and well-being.

I have been through the same feelings, thoughts, emotions, and outcomes as others on the yo-yo diet train. I believe that those in similar situations need to realize that the problem isn’t with food and the size of our bodies, but with a cultural mythology that assigns value based on appearance and conformity. Through fearless research into the science, the culture, and into my own disordered eating, I discovered a step-by-step process to help us release body and food obsession, claim who we really

are, and create a permanent sense of worthiness and esteem regardless of size. This transformational journey sets us free to make healthy choices around how we value and experience happiness in our own lives.

If my story resonates with you in any way or you’ve felt similar emotions or had similar thoughts, remember, you are not alone during this journey!
